SERGI Transformer Protector in the world leader in prevention of transformer explosions and fire.
Who We Are
SERGI Transformer Protector is a French company founded in 1955 with the support of EDF Electricité de France. The initial purpose of the company was to find a solution to extinguish transformer fire and prevent oil filled transformers from exploding.
After a few years of research, the first drain and stir system was invented as an alternative to the water extinguishing system.
Building on this foundation, SERGI created the first Nitrogen Injection Fire Protection System (NIFPS) through our SERGI 3000 System.
By the end of the 1990s, we reached another milestone by developing the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP), a groundbreaking technology in transformer safety.

TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP)
The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP) is a cutting-edge mechanical solution, independent of third-party sensors. It acts within milliseconds following a fault event, rapidly depressurizing the transformer before static pressure can build up.
SERGI pioneered the transformer explosion and fire prevention market. It remains the only proven solution against transformer explosions and fires.
The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR, customized for each transformer design, can be installed on both existing and new transformers, from 0.1 MVA to 1,000 MVA and beyond as demonstrated by its application in a 1,250 MVA transformer within a Nuclear Power Plant.
In keeping with our unwavering dedication to enhancing power resilience and bolstering robustness, SERGI has conducted numerous live tests at renowned independent laboratories, including the Électricité de France (EDF) High Voltage Laboratory in 2002 and 2022, as well as the CEPEL High Voltage Laboratory in 2004.
During these tests was proved that the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP) is extremely successful in protecting transformers from explosions during arcing faults with performances above and far beyond expectations for a Fast Depressurization System complying with the NFPA code 850.
